| 'Six Steps towards effective packaging' |
| 1. |
Get inside the heads of your target audience and imagine what attracts them to your products. |
| 2. |
Identify the messages your packaging needs to communicate and prioritise them. This is the order for size, colour and impact of each item, pictorial or typographic. |
| 3. |
What distance and under what lighting conditions does your pack need to be seen from? Use this information when designing the elements identified in item 2. |
| 4. |
Think about the effect of colours and check against your competitors. Are you trying to emulate them or compete with them? |
| 5. |
Find the simplest method of packaging your product and ask for stock samples of standard packs, they will be far cheaper than designing your own box/pack shapes, unless you have a large budget (this applies to label shapes also) |
| 6. |
It is well worth placing your own prototype packaging at the actual point of purchase in with your competition. After all this is where it will end up! |
